How long have you been working with GLS? How did it start?

EDLANTA - Education Abroad has been working with GLS since 2007 and it’s been 9 years of impeccable collaboration. We are proud to say that every year we send more and more students to GLS and we receive wonderful feedback about both the study programmes and the staff. As the demand for learning German seems to be growing steadily around Europe, I am confident that we will continue our successful collaboration in the future and that the number of students we recruit for GLS courses will continue to grow.

Please describe your agency.

EDLANTA started operating on the Bulgarian market in 2007, initially in the capital Sofia only. Over the years we have opened regional offices in Plovdiv and Burgas and we currently have plans for further development and expansion. Through our partners abroad EDLANTA offers: language courses for young learners and adults, independent boarding school placements, academic year/term placements in state high schools; university Foundation Programmes; Bachelor and Master degree programmes at partner universities and colleges worldwide. EDLANTA also runs annually the European Education Fair Bulgaria (EEF), as well as the Boarding Schools Fair.

Why do your clients book Berlin (and not other places in Germany)?

First of all, Berlin is the capital city and cultural centre of Germany and as such it will always attract people visiting the country for the first time and not only. Also, it is a very convenient destination for Bulgarians as there are many direct flights to and from Berlin.

When was the last time you met GLS staff? At a fair, at an IALC roadshow...?

We last met at the ICEF in Berlin in November 2015 and I was very pleased to learn about their views and plans for future development and investments. I am convinced that these will further boost our collaboration and will facilitate our work as an agent. We are very happy to be among the agents that have the chance to work with such an inventive, responsible and reliable partner as GLS.

Did you ever attend one of the GLS receptions after the Berlin workshop in November?

Of course, we have attended GLS receptions at least three times and every time you keep surprising us with your continuous efforts to improve your services and at the same time keep the charm of what you have already achieved. We all find these workshops very helpful and useful.

What’s your impression of Berlin, especially the GLS district Prenzlauer Berg?

There are so many things to say about Berlin...You walk down the streets and you feel the history through the numerous historical and cultural sights and landmarks, as well as the architecture. Berlin itself is the symbol of the country’s turbulent past - from the Margraviate of Brandenburg, through the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, East and West Germany to the reunification in 1990. In that context, Berlin, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, is the symbol of change and new political and social order, especially for Bulgaria and all the countries that had gone through the Communist regime. At the same time it attracts with the vibration of a modern cosmopolitan city, while its parks, gardens, rivers and lakes make it also a very romantic place.

As far as GLS district Prenzlauer Berg is concerned, I think that it is a unique place that differs somehow from the rest of Berlin - its bars, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and galleries make it a very cozy and pleasant place. Being one of the focal points of the art scene, as well as a neighbourhood with a great number of student population, it has preserved its bohemian spirit, which I really like and I find it very appropriate for a student campus.

What do you like/dislike about GLS?

There are many things I like about GLS. I like the campus and its excellent facilities. As I mentioned - I like its location and I like the staff. Working with GLS is very easy as we have fast communication and we can resolve issue that may arise very quickly. The staff are very helpful and responsive which is of utmost importance. We receive excellent feedback from our students and that is what matters the most after all - if they are happy, we are happy, too.

I like very much the summer camps that you offer for children - there is always something for every age, the camps are situated in very pleasant, calm and inspiring locations that give the children the chance to make the most of their stay with GLS. The nationality mix at GLS is also great - you really have all kind of nationalities which is essential when you want to create a good international environment that can make the student’s stay an enriching experience.
